Creating Healthy Habits That Stick

Share

Have you ever found you get excited to start a new practice? You’ve begun a new workout routine and are stoked to try the new moves, or you’ve come across a new diet that sounds amazing!

You start each day filled with hope that this might be the thing that will take your health to the next level. Then a few days, or a few weeks, pass and you begin to lose your motivation. The results you were hoping to see are taking their sweet time becoming reality. So you give up.

You’re not alone.

Many of us struggle with starting new habits. But there is a way to move through the discomfort to the other side.

It involves community.

Gyms, running clubs, healthy cooking classes, and yoga studios all have something in common: They bring like-minded people together to work towards their goals. The encouragement, inspiration, and for some, friendly competition, help people from all walks of life move the needle forward on their wellness.

One of the biggest benefits of The Self-Care Experiment that I recently ran is the idea of community. What began as a method for women to go inward and make subtle shifts to their mindsets and habits, turned outward into a group concept.

Practicing our wellness in community tends to build longterm, perhaps even lifelong healthy habits.

As nurturers and creative beings, we are designed to connect and uplift each other. Somehow walking along a similar life path with others makes the journey so much easier. We share our hopes and fears, our struggles and breakthroughs, and find that we’re more whole after journeying together a while.

Are you struggling to put your self-care higher on your priority list? My encouragement to you is this: Enlist the help of a friend or a wellness coach. It will help you cover so much more ground in a shorter time period.

You will feel more nourished, energized, and clear-headed when you invest time in your personal wellness. In doing so, you can be even more of a blessing to the world around you.
