Autumn Vibes?

Autumn can be a time of harsh transition for your body. Moving from warm temperatures and a more relaxed vibe, to cold winds and crammed schedules is no joke!

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian wellness science of healing, characterizes the autumn season as one of transition. Can you feel it? It can be warm one day and very cool the next. It’s a time of the harvest and of getting stuff done. The overarching feeling is one of bringing things to completion.

In this video, I go into detail about how you can make some subtle shifts to your lifestyle to feel your best this time of year. My goal is to help you move through the season feeling nourished, rested and not burned out.

Watch Now:

How do you know if you’re out of balance?

If you find yourself having elevated levels of anxiety, insecurity, or restlessness, you may be experiencing a vata imbalance. You may also notice excess vata showing up as trouble settling down to rest, being on edge, or having interrupted sleep. Other traits include having elevated thirst, an irregular appetite, mild weight loss, muscle fatigue, bloating, or pms symptoms.

Get back into balance with some simple fixes

The beautiful thing about your amazing body is that when you give it what it needs, it rebalances itself. Here’s a list of options you can select from to regain balance:

Best foods to eat:

  • Eat warm, well-cooked, well-spiced foods, and lots of healthy fats.

  • Eat roasted root vegetables, soups, and stews.

  • Eat nutrient-dense foods at regular times.

  • Supplement with broad spectrum vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

  • Drink ginger tea to help with digestion and keep your appetite stimulated.

  • Drink room-temperature, warm beverages, and avoid iced drinks.

  • Limit eating raw vegetables, salads, and cold or frozen foods.

  • Reduce bitter and very spicy foods, strong black teas, and coffee.

Best way to exercise:

Create daily practice, ideally in the morning of exercises like…

  • Walking

  • Tai Chi

  • Slow paced weight lifting

  • Swimming

  • Slow paced pilates

  • Yoga

  • Napping (it does a body good!)
