Do you ever talk to yourself?
I mean, like really go deep with your soul? I know – I never used to either. It can be scary what comes up. I somehow got really good at watching how other women (or guys) were living their lives.
I got stuck in comparison-land, feeling guilty that I wasn’t doing all the things that others seemed to be so good at, while they were living WILDLY successful, happy, upwardly-mobile lives.
Until one day…
I was sitting in a waiting room with a successful looking, dewy-skinned, impeccably-dressed woman in a blood test waiting room. She was impatiently tapping her manicured nails on the cover of her cell phone, looking like she was about to jump out of her skin.
I asked her if she was late for another appointment. She answered, “No, but I was hoping to squeeze in a quick call to my business partner before I cut out for the day. Sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day, you know?”
I asked her what she hoped to do after cutting out early, imagining her driving her luxury car to a gala somewhere. She replied, “My daughter will be with her father all weekend, and I wanted to spend an extra hour with her before she leaves. She’s at an age where she still likes talking to me.”
Her words hit my heart.
She went on to tell me that she was a single Mom and was finding it exhausting keeping up in her field of work, raising her daughter, and checking all the boxes to prove her worth.
We never had a chance to continue our conversation, but if I did, I would have shared what I talk about in today’s video post.
