You’ve got a lot on your plate.

You yearn to be one of those people who isn’t “busy-busy”, but the phase of life you’re in, whether it’s your career, kids, aging parents, investments, side-hustles, or your social life, makes it challenging. On top of it all, checking off your wellness practice is often hit and miss.

I mean, with all the amazing apps available, there’s gotta be a way!

Since the health and fitness world became a thing back in the day, women have been trying to get more done with less. Trying to squeeze the most out of each day, be connected in purpose and relationships, be energized and upbeat — all while looking smokin’-hot.

I too, have gotten lost at times in the societal expectations and self-imposed pressure of trying to do it all. It doesn’t make for a happy woman. It’s just plain exhausting at times.

So until AI finds a way to seamlessly weave all the elements of our life together in perfect balance, I have two words for you:

Book Ends

Just to be clear, I’m not referring to the white marble mini-statues of Shakespearean leading men that my Mom used to keep her books on display. What I’m referring to are your very own, personally defined, soul-driven wellness rituals, set at the start and towards the end of each day.

In my more than 25 years of researching, experimenting, and practicing a variety of health and wellness methods, I’ve found one thing to be the key to my well being above all else:

Having predictable daily rituals.

No matter what goal I’ve wanted to achieve in terms of my physical, mental, or emotional health, I’ve consistently made the most progress when I have at least a few daily rituals that I can count on.

They’ve acted as mile markers on the road I travel each day. They support me, no matter what I’m celebrating or struggling with. They put my days in perspective and give me something to look forward to and help me reset myself. Having them in place keeps me mindful, more present, and grounded in gratitude.

Try it for yourself.

Your soul-driven wellness rituals are completely customizable for your lifestyle. I have a morning ritual that grounds and energizes me for the day ahead and an evening ritual that witnesses the day and prepares me for rest.

You can make yours begin when you reach your work space and when you leave it, or any combination that you choose. 

A few ideas …

Morning:

  • Gratitude prayer
  • breathing practice
  • yoga
  • lemon water
  • looking with gratitude over your daily schedule

Evening:

  • Scanning your calendar for the day ahead
  • gratitude journaling
  • epsom salts bath
  • reading for 10 minutes
  • snuggles

Your chosen soul-driven wellness rituals can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour, or longer. The beauty is found in reconnecting to yourself and the activities YOU choose to engage in with your precious time.

Whether it’s a 5 minute meditation or an hour-long hike, when you commit to your daily practice, you’re showing yourself the love and respect that can change your life.

  1. I appreciate reading and trying all the great tips you have to share, Sheila. Thank you for using your character and your experience to give back in such practical ways.
    My wellness routine, besides good healthy meals, consists of similar practices to yours, Sheila. I find routine difficult both because of work schedules and because of my own character traits. I know, though, that being consistent as possible and forgiving myself when I’m not so keyed into routine, are paramount to achieving energy and restfulness.
