Avoiding A Sugar Take-Over

Share

I love root vegetables like squash, turnip, and pumpkin. The natural sweetness is so rich, especially when roasted. That would be all well and good if that was all I liked, but I must confess, pumpkin pie is a personal favourite too…

Treat Time

How about you? What foods do you enjoy most of all at this time of year? Even if a big meal with friends and family doesn’t happen, we’re all inundated with the coffee house marketing us warm, carmel-infused, frothy drinks and treats. It can be hard to avoid. So go ahead and indulge. Just make sure you balance the treats with some low-sugar, high nutrition-value food as well.

If you find it supremely difficult to combat your cravings, make sure you have a smart plan to fall back on. When I’m in a pinch, I make sure I have some healthy foods stashed in my bag. Things like an apple and a handful of mixed nuts. Or one of my favorite nutrition bars or protein shakes made up in a cooler in the car. When you plan ahead, you’ll avoid the insulin rush of high carb or high sugar food.

Healthy Alternatives

Some of my favorite healthy snacks can be found in my product partner’s line of highly nutritious foods. You can learn more about them here. Many people have used them successfully as weight-loss tools, helping to lower sugar cravings and resetting their body’s insulin response. The results have been life changing for people who used to make processed foods their main diet.

As you approach the week ahead, may you find your healthy choices outweigh your quick-carb noshing. A little treat time never hurt anybody. It becomes a challenge when it turns into a season of treats. 🙂 This could be the season that you make the health shift you’ve been hoping for. I know you can do it!

Tell Me:

What foods you find yourself craving during the winter, spring, summer and fall seasons? Do you see a difference in the type of food you gravitate towards based on the different times of year? I’d love to hear what recipes you’d like to have more selection of throughout the year. Please tell me in the comments. I’ll be incorporating ideas from this community in future recipe posts.
