Green Tea Health Benefits

Share

Green tea has long been considered one of the world’s healthiest drinks, containing the highest amount of antioxidants of any tea.

Made from the unoxidized leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush, green tea is one of the less processed types of tea, therefore containing a high level of antioxidants and beneficial polyphenols. This explains why Chinese and Indian medicine have used the plant for centuries to treat a variety of health conditions.

It’s important to ensure you select organic brands that have been grown and harvested in non-toxic regions. Brands I enjoy include Traditional Medicinals and Yogi Teas.

Why is green tea so good for you?

Modern science reveals that green tea extract has been found to reduce inflammation and oxidative damage to DNA. This has opened the door to research in all areas of health including that of The National Cancer Institute who found that the polyphenols in tea decrease tumor growth in laboratory and animal studies.

Various research has shown positive impacts on many different types of cancer. Researchers believe that it is the high level of polyphenols in tea that help kill cancerous cells and stop them from growing. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is the most studied and bioactive polyphenol in tea and has been shown to be the most effective at eliminating free radicals and preventing cell damage.

Make prevention a practice

Good health doesn’t happen by accident. It takes consistently following body nourishing practices over time. Adding antioxidants into your daily diet is a simple way to protect your immune system and boost your health. Have a cup of green tea mid-morning or midday to soothe your senses. There are so many delicious options to try. Here are a few of my favourites:

  • Green jasmine

  • Lemongrass green

  • Green ginger

  • Mint green

  • Kombucha green

My daily vitamins contain a bioflavonoid complex that includes green tea extract in ideal ratios for optimal benefit.  It can be challenging to find a supplement that you can trust, so I’m grateful that my product partner sources ingredients and manufactures according to Good Manufacturing Practices. It really takes the guesswork out of what is truly essential to my health.

If you want to drink more green tea, it’s nice to know that you can have it warm or iced, so it’s easy to sip year-round. If you find the taste too bitter you can add a bit of raw honey or stevia to find the best flavor for you. It’s a simple way to add some extra health-boosting antioxidants into your body.

Tell Me:

Which form of green tea will you try? Do you already have a favourite? Let me know in the comments. We’re always looking for new flavours to enjoy!

Blessings,
Sheila
