The Question That Changed Everything

We can learn how to do just about anything online. From fixing a broken windshield-wiper, to learning a foreign language, to properly pitting a mango.

 

While the internet is a useful tool, we can easily spend our time learning about things that may not serve our highest purpose. We can become generalists in so many things and never make progress where we most want to.

 

I remember not too long ago feeling this way as a new mom. I read book after book about different parenting and baby sleep techniques. I would ask moms all around me what they did. It was helpful but I was forgetting one important factor:

 

My inner wisdom as a mom.

 

I’m all for not re-inventing the wheel and learning from others’ experience. I simply realized that I needed to run what I learned through the filter of this question:

 

Is what I’m doing making me feel like the Mom I want to be?

 

Whoa. Cue record-scratching noise.

 

The question highlighted what practices needed to stay and which needed to go. It took away the anxiety of trying to fit into a mould not designed for my lifestyle. It also gave me a clear path to follow that was personalized just for me.

 

You can ask a similar question when it comes to your wellbeing. It could be the thing that shakes you out of the box that you’re in and into the realm of what’s possible for you. I encourage you to ask yourself:

 

Are my current habits making me feel the way I want to feel?

 

You may be surprised at your response. Do you unearth some long-held ideas that are actually excuses keeping you from how you want to feel? Or some habits you may not think much about that are the very things that bring you your greatest joy.
